Understanding child development-Standard 1 & 5 TSDS
Understanding child development is an essential task for social workers, foster carers and every member of the children’s workforce. A good understanding of normal child development equips workers to promote healthy development and enables them to recognise signs that a child or young person is not thriving or may need protecting from harm. This course provides that understanding and enables learners to relate this to their role in working with children and young people.
Description
- Know how to observe and record children’s development. They will be able to:
- Explain how to observe children’s development
- Identify techniques for storing and sharing information about the development of a particular child or young person
- Know milestones in child development. They will demonstrate the ability to:
- Identify key milestones and needs in physical development
- Identify key milestones and needs in emotional development
- Identify key milestones and needs in moral development
- Identify key milestones and needs in social development
- Identify key milestones and needs in cognitive development
- Know about indicators of developmental delay and developmental impairment. Learners will be equipped to:
- Give examples of indicators of developmental delay
- Give examples of indicators of developmental impairment
- Explain how delayed or impaired development may affect a child or young person
